With each generation of acts, you get a few that rise above the pack and progress to the next stage. But milling around the ankles of the predators is a pack of scavengers who feast of the scraps falling from the edge of the dinner table. After all, if hundreds of thousands of people are buying Kaiser Chiefs records, someone’s going to be buying Pigeon Detectives albums as part of the overspill…

The only thing that really separates Welsh four-piece, The Heights, from the rest of the scavenger pack is frontman Owain Ginsberg, who's voice is closer to that of Chris Cornell, rather than that of your standard NME-botherers. The riff has slightly more girth than the usual indie vapour-trails, but it’s neither brusque enough to muscle out the garage rockers, or accomplished enough to elbow out a niche amongst all the other four-pieces with a couple of guitars and a better eye for shoe-gazing.

Averagely Forgettable.
