Noisettes

If the Yeah Yeah Yeahs ever came out of that studio loft and started busking from the gutter, then they’d sound like the Noisettes. They’ve – rightly – got a reputation for being able to peel the lid off a live audience, using their particular brand of aural trepanning.

But new single, ‘Scratch Your Name’, feels like it goes on too long – and it barely bursts past the three minute mark as it is. Tracks like this should be raw and hard and fast. Over the last few years we’ve gorged on so much rough-edged, scuzzed-up, filthy rock, that having a riff with laser-guided precision, and even a soulful vocal hook, aren’t quite enough ideas to make this work for the full duration.

“Scratch Your Name” is out on May 7 on Universal.
