This release hit headlines for all the wrong reasons. 'Fightstar release CD on one side and Vinyl on the other isn’t that inventive.' Not one news story ran that this is a storming thunderbolt of a metal track.
Charlie has finally put his pop sentimentality to bed. Well almost…
After a zombie moan, 'Deathcar' launches into a screaming juggered onslaught that is worthy of DevilDriver or Lamb of God. Yes! Let it go, Charlie – the ghost of dead pop songs … Oh but before we can say goodbye; the handsome fellow claws back a bit of soft rock - we are exposed to these soft breaks, which go all ‘haunting’ and are totally naff. But they do allow us some of the best stylistic changes in a single track in 2007. Totally brilliant and credible track – have no idea what the lyrics are about, assume it is a Deathproof type story of fast cars and murder most horrid.
Someone once told me how they thought that Busted put an end to all the Stock Aiken and Waterman clones of the 90s, by introducing the idea of being a guitar band to the teeny boppers. From then on, the indie band onslaught was king – which if you look back at the top tens from the 90s we should all be very thankful for.
Anyway back to the matter in hand – the matter in hand is a guy with a mic-stand.
Fightstar tears out some very crunchy noises from their guitars and from his voice, think I will go try and copy it. Very good, carry on…
