I think I must be the worst person in the world for keeping my CDs in some sort of order. I opened this Danava CD all of a minute ago, and now I've totally lost everything to do with it. Maybe the paper shredder comes alive when I make tea?
'Where Beauty and Terror Dance' is straight 70’s rock - Danava aren’t of course from the seventies, they're from Portland Stateside. The vocal sounds like it was recorded in a metal bucket, the guitars have actively ducked the modern crunch tones and are plugged straight with valve overdrive. Then suddenly a member of the band pipes up… who is it? It is the wizard with his brand new Synth… MOVE OVER straight rock, we are going fully prog! So calling all Hawkmen, this track plows forwards.
The B-side (it is a shame CDs don’t have different sides on occasions) is a cover of prog rock bands 70’s tune Stray. I had never heard of Stray but their description pretty much covers this release by Danava: One of the most consistent and popular bands of the 70s, Stray trod a fine line between Hard Rock, Prog, and harmony-driven Boogie, their powerful playing, hook-laden melodies and accomplished harmonies appealing equally to all three audiences.
So yes going in the Beef Warehouse box.
