The Maybes?
American 70’s rawk.. Hippy girls dancing in the middle of the warehouse. 'Got any more bread man?' Phat Joe is here…'Pass the ludes' The Eagles, The Byrds, AC/DC are all references. Actually no, throw those out. This record is ALL about the early Aerosmith. In fact this is early Aerosmith! I can’t imagine it being anyone else. A Pre-Hepatitis Stephen Tyler in a heroin bliss, with more tassles then a Nashville stripper on stage belting out these tracks. The rest of the band lured there on reds tearing through barely remembered songs.
Ok now we have established that it sounds exactly like early Aerosmith (did I say that). Is is good? Is scuzzy rock, with driving beats and Tyler like vocals wailing over it any good? Of course if f**king is. Did you not pass your Hard Rock GCSE’s?
Rock 'n' Roll is the opening track and kicks off the classic rock fury albeit with a non-title, like calling a cat ‘cat’. Get on the Resin is sexually and suggestively charged possibly stronger then the title track and introduces a little bit of Black Crowes into the cockrock mix. On all four tracks there is a broken, and production that is wirey and feels recorded in a container port and this is a very fine thing.
The odd thing is that the Maybes? Are from Liverpool and look like a bunch of traksuit wearing scallys. I swear that one stole my Ipod at a party that time.
Look foward to see them live.
