Tonight the Dublin Castle fills up 15 minutes before they are due on. Pretty men and ladies all over the shop shuffle into the back room. The London four piece, The Vigours, take to the stage. Lead singer, Joey Viguor, looks like he has fallen out of a different era. The rather stiff look belies the loud, deep, and actually quite brilliant voice.
The set has lot of a driving footstomping eastern feel to it, with all sorts of gentleman’s harmonies all over it. Their track "Gremlin in the Kremlin" has a very enjoyable outro that informs the audience that Joey still has all his wisdom teeth. The sound kind of lies between Gogol Bordello and Dexys Midnight Runners? Well it is certainly inspiring the audience to jump about in the same manner as they do at those bands.
The fans from the other bands have stuck around and are now swinging each other round arm in arm. The furry freak brother lads (Aka support band the The Lip Clicks) down from Manchester are getting a bit out of it and breaking their glasses with wilful abandon. Matt Vigours drums pounding away keeping their feet moving on beat. The Viguors seemed to bring the audience together with a sense of community. All unknown but all ended up shaking our booty together to these boys. I want to be doing this again in the sunshine at the festivals this summer.
What a pheasant surprise. Go watch them.
