Friday the thirteenth is supposedly meant to be an unlucky day for those who are superstitious. Those who were at Klaxons, superstitious or not, had an extremely lucky day.

One thousand five hundred neon-clad fans joined at Koko in Camden to watch Klaxons at Club NME as part of the New Rave Revolution tour. It is safe to say, judging from the amount of glow sticks, eighties style leggings and the extreme lengths that people were going to look in style for the event, that people had tried very hard. Due to all of this, the expectations for Klaxons were very high.

The perfectly kohled eyes of the girls and the hair that was swept neatly onto many boys’ faces were soon to be destroyed with the thrashing and thrusting that came with the Klaxons first song, ‘The Bouncer’. Whilst this was being played the overall feeling of the crowd was relieved that it wasn’t all an anti-climax.

After the first song the Klaxons performed, the audience forgot about the act they were trying to pull off. They didn’t worry if their drain pipes weren’t tight enough or if they looked intimidating. The atmosphere was electric and like no other. No one stared and no one (more importantly), cared. The crowd, in this instance, used the phrase, “dance like no one’s watching” literally. Everyone was moving. From the front, where the die-hard fans were, to the back where the rhythm was beaten into the bar.

As the song ‘Gravity’s Rainbow’ was performed, swagging around the stage, the band captured everyone and it becomes increasingly impossible to criticise these boys who have inspired a forest of glow sticks instead of the tired, sea of straw hats. ‘Atlantis to Interzone’ , was played with such energy, the beat of the drums so consistent in every beat and the band were so passionate about the over powering music that they have created.

The end came far too quickly, and soon enough we were all contemplating the amazing burst of energy that had swept the whole of Koko.

So now, we all take a breath of fresh air as the electric orange sun has luckily risen on the ‘New Rave Revolution’.
