Four short and sweet tracks in this second release from Liverpool based 4 piece The Open, and the CD is the gorgeously packaged.
‘We can never say goodbye’ Put it in the CD player excepting a mellow open affair and this slow drifty guitar and singing comes in, but then soon enough this becomes are upbeat guitar laden rockingly good track. Twiddles are begging for a touch of air guitar. The lyrics seem to be a sweet and sad love song. Loving the axe weilding kicking in, end life on a solo. ‘The Box’ is a post rock repeated riff building up with an almost keyboard sounding guitar. Fades in and fades out without a trace. The EP stops being sweet around here ‘I Call You’ Nice strings kick this track off with sinister trip then sinks into a sulking stalking sound, the darker side of the coin of ‘We can never say goodbye’. La Lumiere EP ends it all with a track John Carpenter should have wrote – ‘The Mirror’. This EP is surprisingly experimental using lots of strings and horns a welcome twist on indie rock.
