When I woke up this morning, the television told me 22 January was officially the bleakest day of the year, all because of post-Christmas blues, credit card bills and chafing grey chills.
An ominous day then for Larrikin Love to release new single “A Day In The Life”.
The Larrikins’ distillation of 24 hours into two minutes, 30 seconds isn’t exactly celebratory fare either, what with all the talk of unholy dancing in the soul, life being cruel and tragic and fire in the willow trees. An apocalyptic day, indeed.
The soundtrack to the Larrikins’ day skits between X-Factor Johnny Marr guitar, lolloping 2 Tone bass and yet more predictable doffs to The Doherty and his shambolic offspring. Jamie T also lends his vocals to the over-the-counter philosophies and the humdrum-hummable chorus.
Verdict: Strictly for the fans
