Not sure if I get the football angle on this CD at all, but then I don’t get football full stop: seeing it as akin evil to money itself. But I guess it is necessary to stop the Mancunians and Liverpudlians from rising up against the rest of us. So this album is a mix of excellent Afrobeat, a few drops of ropey Reggae, all begging to played out in the sunshine with a few beers and a kickass soundsystem.
It kicks off with Please don’t stop – Richard Bona featuring John Legend, An organ led soul smoothy track perfect for those fans of John Legends rocket to smoochy, Jamie Cullum style jazz/soul stardom that I could happily leave well alone.
But the album soon rectifies this gental caramel start by introducing us to Cheikh Lo doing Kelle Magni – : Brilliant Afrobeat track, turn it up on some good speakers and listen to the careful weaving of bass, drums, guitars. The soft vocals over the top in Fela Kuti styles.
Defaal Lu Wor by Waia Diop is like a smoothed voiced Tom Waits does Africa beat version of Once in a Lifetime. Bloody odd, really good. I think the album is worth it along for this. Very good dynamic drum sounds.
Silani – Ba Sissoko Featuring K’naan is a more Youssou N’dour track with some hiphop breaks in the middle. Launguage jumping Manu Ciao comes to mind. Never mind the great guitar on it.
Anyway it shows music related to UK footballwith a crying shame. I suggest anyone with a Fat Les single please please, for your own mental stimuli go out and buy this album, if you don’t please consider suicide as a viable option for the future.
Storming tracks, I just wish I knew more languages to understand them all.
