Aw aren’t they sweet.

Welcome back, Shellac: their first record for 7 years. The Album starts with that distinctive tone as the black humour of the 'End of Radio' rings out.

'Steady as she goes': almost a normal song – has a verse and chorus and everything.

'Be prepared': the humour continues on this track from the rock/riff start to the Be Prepared backing vocals hollering from the back. In fact the whole song seems to break down after two minutes into something else entirely only coming back with deep purplesque vigour.

'Genuine Lulabelle': 8 minutes of open form Shellac with some minimalist drum solo’s and a bit of poetry in the middle. Aw aren’t they sweet.

'Kittypants': Seems while Lulabelle was hogging the limelight, Kittypants only got just over one minute. Take off all the distortion this would almost be folk. But it isn’t of course it is Shellac of North America.

'Bocott': Fast driving track doesn’t sound like Albini singing maybe Bob has taking on the mantle.

'Paco': Big end-of-the-western sounding track. Climbing up the hill to face his foe dried cracks of blood in his hair and under his fingernails. A moments respite as the sun shines on his face – but then the climb up the craggy rock face comes in to view and he starts again. Also like a few tracks in the past I can hear a lot of Fleetwood Mac in here.

'Spoke': Shellac take the Post off their genre and swap the Rock for Punk in this track. Shouting ranting voices. I want to jump around to this and play it next to The Horrors in a packed smelly metal club.

Big heavy clunking tones and fast licks litter the album. I promise if you didn’t like Shellac before… you still won’t like them.
