I followed Lloyd Coles career for quite a while, as he made a huge impact in the 80’s with the commotions, and for me even better stuff followed with his solo efforts. I was intrigued to hear this and see how Mr Cole was developing.

Although never blessed with the greatest voice, it works with his observations, and he is clearly in reminiscing mode with several references to the Big apple where he lived for quite a while, I believe he’s moved to Boston now?

The album works at a certain level – it kind of cruises along with some great melodies and lyrics- but it doesn’t ever get out of middle gear, and it’s more of an observation than a complaint. I like the tapestries Mr. Cole paints with his vocals and arrangements, and it’s perfect for that long night time drive. But it seems that he’s lost that extra  bit of a power cord here and a bit more noise there – that his earlier work contained.

But it’s OK with me.
