This album has clear Manson, Numan overtones over it. It kicks off with a carnival sounding affair – sinister elephants and distant cries and the positively industrial Starting Over kicks in.. I was going to put a Mr Bungle reference here then saw on Wikipedia that that is almost a concept for the band to sound like Mr Bungle so I better not mention it again.
Bitch we have got a problem is quite enjoyable – feels all MTV rock show – now all I need is to be on holiday on Venice beach in the late 90’s. Evolution is pretty rubbish song all round… don’t know what monkey let that on the album.
Lot of sequencing going on this album. I can almost hear the click tracks that they are all listening to on Hold On be strong. Kiss it sounds utterly Manson.
So I swear Korn used to be metal! Check out ’why do you always push me away’ line at the end of Kiss. Actually this album is really camp – check out the track Love & Luxury; it is boyband worthy with the name to boot. Gets more poppy by the second... what loons - they shed their Nu-Metal skin entirely like a giant snake shedding it's skin.
It is more goth then before more Evanessence then Limp Bizkit and that leads me that their will be more hot chicks at their gigs then before. And Korn will be serenading them from the main stage with romantic numbers like ‘I will protect you'.
So for all this 'selling out' or 'pansyfying' of their sound... I think it sounds great! For every reason why more hardcore fans might dislike it - it is also reason to have another listen to Korn with your finest Goth hat on.
