Listening to this guy who has a Japanese father and Canadian mother, it’s hard to believe that he is only 18 years of age, such is the maturity and depth of his song- writing, he has either lived life faster than most people his age, or he has watched a lot of movies!
There’s no questioning his vocal talent, his voice has a richness way beyond his years, and this album is full of bluesy folk that does make some of his senior peers pale in quality.
However whilst Justin paints great shades of grey with his voice and music, unfortunately there are not enough lighter shades – so after the initial delight, it does become a bit tedious, as I was waiting for the uplift, and it just wasn’t coming.
Worth a listen, but for someone so young, it’s just a tad to dark. Let’s hope he takes some happy pills before the next album!
