Virgin Megastores are to be no longer in charge of their own stocking. It has outsourced it to Entertianment UK, part of the Woolworths group. If you've been into the music section of your local Woolworths recently, you'll know this can only be A Bad Thing.

Second only to HMV in terms of high street record sales, for one of the UK's leading music retailers coming to the conclusion that it can't handle sourcing, buying and distribution of their own stock is incredible.

In an official notice to Virgin staff, managing director Simon Douglas confirmed that Entertainment UK would be taking over all buying and distribution functions from June 1st. An unspecified number of redundancies would occur as a result.
