The Fratellis become the second act to release songs directly on USB memory sticks. Around 7000 mini-memory sticks containing new single "Baby Fratelli" went on sale today. The memory sticks will be available through HMV.

The band follow Keane, who released "Nothing's In My Way" exclusively on the diddy-format last October. The entire run of which sold out in a single day.

Universal/Island Records marketing chief, Lee Jenson is certainly a big fan: "The success of the Keane single last year convinced us that music fans would welcome more audio releases on this format. If demand really does start to take off, it may well become viable to think about releasing selective albums on USB as well, especially if they were to [also] become eligible for inclusion in the chart".

Personally, I can't see the point - surely the point of digital music is the download-accesibility of it? Going out to a shop to buy a physical format that houses it seems to undermine the core concept entirely. Unless tracks are available exclusively in this format, then the novelty is just going to wear off.
