The House on Old Hickory Lan burns down
Wednesday, April 11, 2007
Johnny Cash's 'fortress of solitude', The House on Old Hickory Lane, burnt to the ground last night - heartbroken when it realised it's family wasn't coming home.
June Carter Cash and Johnny Cash lived in the house since 1968 untill they both passed away in 2003.
The house is rich in it's history from Johnny Cash's attempts to commit suicide in the caves around it to the some of the most amazing albums in history being concieved in the house.
Neighbour Marty Stuart talking to the Associated Press "There was a lot of writing that took place there. The Folsom Prison prison record came from there, the San Quentin record, The Holy Land, the Man in Black book came from there."
More recently it had been used for the film of Cash's life and the man's final video "Hurt". In the last few months it had been bought by Bee Gee Barry Gibb. And no-one is in any doubt that maybe this is "the good Lord's way to make sure that it was only Johnny's house" (Richard Sterban, of country and gospel band, the Oak Ridge Boys)
