Rock'n'Roll To Save Earth
Tuesday, February 13, 2007
Do you remember the end credits to Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey? There were loads of mocked-up newspaper headlines about how Wyld Stallions saved the world through the awesome power of 80's rock. One of the headlines was "Air Guitar Found To Reduce Pollution" or something.
Ex-US Vice President Al Gore isn't solving the problem of global warming quite so tritely, but he is planning to put on a large, Live 8-style simultaneous day of concerts across the world. He's hoping to draw attention and public support behind climate change issues in the way that Bob Geldof's global shindig got people talking about poverty relief. Albeit briefly.
Rumours abound as to when it might take place (early July) and people who might play (Kylie, U2, Madonna, Robbie Williams if he gets out of rehab, Coldplay and maybe even Oasis) but even a Spice Girls re-union is being mentioned following tabloid snaps of 3 of the former girlband meeting in a London eatery.
I will personally go and live in a cave and produce no zero carbon emissions until the day I die if someone puts pay to that particular piece of the rumour mill.
