It's that time of year again - tomorrow morning at 11:30am, the shortlist for the Nationwide Mercury Music Prize 2008 are set to be announced. And as per usual, Music Towers will be lurching down the bookies to put a few quid on some of them.

The Prize's Chair of Judges, Simon Frith had this to say: "It's been a strong year for UK music and we again saw a rise in the number of albums entered for the Prize. One of the intriguing developments is the increasing blurring of different genres, with musicians clearly absorbing influences from a growing array of divergent sources - resulting in some great albums"

What’s the likelihood that Portishead, Radiohead, and The Last Shadow Puppets will be bothering the shortlist?
