Madonna: God is not offended
Tuesday, January 30, 2007
Chemealonic Childsnatcher Madonna has escaped prosecution in the Netherlands following a performance in Amsterdam back in September last year.
During her Confessions tour, the 48 year-old singer wore a crown of thorns and bowed down before a giant luminescent crucifix. The hardline Protestant SGP Party subsequently called for blasphemy charges to be levelled at her.
But the Prosecutor's office in Amsterdam has had other ideas, and today made the following announcement:
"The pop singer Madonna will not be prosecuted for blasphemy and insulting faith. The prosecutor's office believes that through her show, the singer on all the evidence tried to express her frustrations about certain situations in the world, it is not a question of contempt for God. Furthermore, Madonna did not discredit Christians as a group."
Which is good news for anyone who thinks that if there is a Supreme Being up there, they'll have better things to concern themselves with than a pop star taking the piss.
