Live Earth: It's really happening. Fast.
Tuesday, April 10, 2007
Blimey, they’ve really gone to town with this one: Al Gore’s proposed Live Earth announced today line-ups for two of the seven concerts planned for July 7 this year, all with the very noble notion of raising awareness to the issues of climate change.
Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Genesis, Beastie Boys and Foo Fighters will be topping the bill at London's Wembley Stadium, with “support” coming from Bloc Party, Corinne Bailey Rae, Black Eyed Peas, Damien Rice, David Gray, Duran Duran, James Blunt, Paolo Nutini, Razorlight, Snow Patrol, John Legend, and Keane.
The US concert, taking place in New York, will be led by The Police, Kanye West and Bon Jovi, with AFI, Akon, Alicia Keys, Fall Out Boy, John Mayer, Kelly Clarkson, KT Tunstall, Ludacris, and Rihanna amongst those filling it out.
So far, no-one has really pointed out that an awful lot of plane fuel will be spent ferrying everyone to their respective gigs, nor at the sheer volume of environmental waste these shindigs produce. But hey, if you shout out about how it’s for a good cause with a big enough voice, people seem not to notice and/or care about such trifling details.
The other concerts will take place in Shanghai, Johannesburg, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo, although there hasn’t been a peep out of anyone as to who’s playing them.
