Keith Richards is in good spirits as he remains under observation in New Zealand after a mild concussion, a spokeswoman said today (Thursday).

She denied, however, that the 62-year-old  Rolling Stones guitarist would require a drill through his skull to drain blood from his brain, as some news reports have suggested.

"He's feeling good and in good spirits," spokeswoman Fran Curtis told Reuters. She did not know when he would leave New Zealand, but said the European leg of the band's world tour would begin as scheduled on May 27 in Barcelona.

The Sun newspaper had previously reported that he would require an operation to drill a hole in his brain to draw blood after Keith complained of continuing headaches.

Keith was released from hospital initially last week, following his tree climbing accident in Fiji last week.  He  had been rushed to hospital after suffering a head injury after falling from a palm tree.  At the time it was thought he was suffering only mild concussion
