Sunday, November 06, 2005
From last monday IMESH (31st October) announced the nestling in the bosum of the law. The New York Company offers a single track for 99 cents or unlimited access at $6.95 a month. Claiming to have 2 million tracks from the 4 majors it has the full rack of kit... So how will it fair? After all it isn't itunes.
150k people downloaded it on that day so that is a good start. "From a business perspective their main challenge is to convert their installed base, which is used to downloading music for free, over to paid subscribers," said Gartner analyst Mike McGuire. He estimated digital music is one of the fastest-growing sectors on the internet, with sales projected to swell to about $1.4 billon by 2009 from just $335 million in 2004. So the prizes are high.
