You've almost certainly already heard it by now, but Ike Turner died yesterday. He died at home from as-yet unannounced reasons. He was 76 years old.

Ike Turner was a near-legendary producer, arranger and musician, who's 1951 song 'Rocket 88' can genuinely claim to be one of the first ever rock'n'roll records, therefore helping to change the face of music forever. Turner of course was later famed for marrying and working with Anna Mae Bullock, aka Tina Turner. It would later be alleged by Tina that Ike was a violently abusive man. Ike admitted to hitting Tina but denied right up to his death that he was a serial abuser.

While we might hold Ike Turner up as an example of the worst kind of spousal abuser, his contributions to popular music are undeniable.
