A last-minute attempt to save the Hammersmith Palais from destruction failed last night, when the local council rejected an appeal to have the venue listed. English Heritage came to the conclusion that it just wasn’t special enough to give it listed status.

Along with the planned demolition of the Astoria, London is slowly looking gradually more bereft of larger venues for bands to play.

The Palais is currently the home of the School Disco clubnight, as well as upcoming gigs for Enter Shikari and Fall Out Boy. It was immortalised in the Clash song “(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais”.
