Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett (January 6, 1946 – July 7th, 2006)

News just in that founder of Pink Floyd Syd Barrett has died at his family home at the age of 60 last week. The death is said to have been complications arrising from diabetes.

Credited with moving on the Pink Floyd from names such as The Tea Set, The Abdabs, The Screaming Abdabs Syd came up with The Pink Floyd and set to about writing the first two singles 'Arnold Layne' and 'See Emily Play'. He was also the the principal author behind the first seminal album 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn'. He is also credited for almost creating Pyscadelic rock with tracks like 'Interstellar Overdrive'. Although heavy experimentation with LSD ultimately lead to a pyscosis that he wasn't to escape from. Syd spent the last thirty years as a recluse living in Cambridge next door to his Mum

Pink Floyd wrote Shine on you Crazy Diamond and Wish you were here about the troubadour. Today they released this statment:

“The band are naturally very upset and sad to learn of Syd Barrett’s death.
Syd was the guiding light of the early band line-up and leaves a legacy which continues to inspire.”

A spokeperson for the family is to have said
"He died very peacefully a couple of days ago,

There will be a private family funeral."
