Fopp: Has it all gone wrong?
Monday, June 25, 2007
Word round that campfire is that high-street retailer Fopp is on the verge of going out of business. Perhaps buying up all those Music Zone stores last year after they went bust wasn't such a good idea....
So far, chairman Gordon Montgomery has only said the company is "experiencing difficulties", but has denied they are going into administration. The chain, which is the third biggest high street music retailer in the UK, closed its 50 stores on Friday for an 'emergency stocktake'. This would be a week after the chain told its book suppliers to cancel any new orders or orders to replenish stock.
Music Towers doesn't want Fopp to go under. As far as shops go, Fopp is the King of the Guilty Impulse Purchase. Where else will be be able to gorge on old Bowie records for under a fiver?
