The headliners for Download 2007 have been announced – My Chemical Romance, Linkin Park and Iron Maiden.

Rather depressing if you ask me – Linkin Park, who headlined a day in 2004, are the very definition of a metal band for people who don’t like metal. If Iron Maiden (also a previous headliner, from 2003) play silly buggers like they did on their tour last year, and play their entire new album in its entirety rather than do a proper set….well, it doesn’t bear thinking about. And are there really so few bands up to the challenge of headlining the UK’s best metal fest that they’re already recycling them?

My Chemical Romance – fair enough, they’ve hit the stratosphere with the last album…but will the Download crowd be any friendlier than that at Reading in 2006?
