70's heavy rock legends, Deep Purple, have urged their fans not to buy a recently re-released live album, citing it as "their worst concert ever". The recording, from a 1993 show at the Birmingham NEC, was made weeks before guitarist Richie Blackmore quit the band on extremely unfriendly terms. At the time of the recording the band were, by their own admission, "awful".

Lead singer, Ian Gillan, has branded Sony BMG, the label behind the re-release, as "opportunistic", and as trying to capitalise on the band's forthcoming UK tour. The label have withdrawn the album, and are investigating how it came to be released six weeks ago without the band being fully informed. They gave a parting shot in the form of saying that the band had initially OK'd the release back in 1993.
