The other promoters & venues let out a small sigh of relief as Live Nation seems to have reached capacity in the eyes of the competition commission.

The worlds largest events company Live Nation has recently been attempting to purchase the Academy Music Group, buy teaming up with Irish promoters MCD it seems that they had found a method to circumnavigate the monopolies commission. But the case was passed onto the competition commission.

The trouble came when it seemed that londons five major venues with a capacity of 1,000 to 5,0000 under one companies roof.  Live Nation owns or runs the Hammersmith Apollo and the Forum and the Astoria on Charing Cross Road, while Academy Music Group owns the Shepherd’s Bush Empire and the Brixton Academy.

The commission proposed that the merger will only be permitted if either the Brixton Academy and the Hammersmith Apollo are sold — both venues with a capacity of about 5,000 — and if either of the Shepherd’s Bush Empire and the Forum are disposed of.
