Apple delivered its one billionth music download late Wednesday. Teenager Alex Ostrovsky from Michigan downloaded Coldplays 'speed of sound' to create Itunes billionth download and winning ten Ipods and ten thousand songs in the process.

This is being seen as a landmark development for the changing practices in the purchase of music, especially when downloading music was considered a practice that was to bankrupt the industry only a few years back.

Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs said the billionth download represented 'a major force against music piracy and the future of music distribution as we move from CDs to the internet'.

Critics say that although a billion songs may have been downloaded how many were actually purchased with estimates being somewhere in the region of only 30-40% of the Billion mark. The rest being promotional giveaways.

Here at MusicTowers we are disappointed that Coldplays 'speed of sound' was the download track and not the Saddle Tramps 'you put the cunt (into country)'.
