Planning developers are like Vogons but with bigger swimming pools and more group sex.

Back in 2006, Music Towers discovered the submitted plans to rip out Camden's Stables Market. We actually wrote a real letter and put it in the post – we also wrote an article to attempt to highlight the sweeping tide of Camden Council's mission to rip the natural heart out of Camden and replace it with a big shiny glass thing.

If you don’t know what the Stables is – it is like the Corn Exchange at Leeds, or the gay bars in Soho, trees in Hamstead, for shristsake. It is the Goose That Laid The Golden Egg of Camden. Over the last ten years, Camden has been suffering from the onslaught of the identikit highstreet and this would be it’s last stand… The Stables is the Alamo and inside it plays host to about 60 traders.

Last night, Kate 'So-Hot-Right-Now' Nash played to our local boozer, The Boogaloo, in a press night for the Save Camden Stables Market campaign. Her show was excellent – her voice was in fine form and probably capable of Whitney Houston-type tracks (but she has the good sense not too). Her current single is not indictive the rest of her set, and she flips between guitar, piano, and voice effortlessly. She keeps asking the press audience to highlight the Stables Market. It is a excellent show from sound to song.

However… as much as I have all the support in the world for Saving Camden Stables (god knows I have bought enough Christmas presents down there), I have an issue or two with the the campaign's method.

The lady that had the press releases – was reluctant to give them out? And quizzed the missus in a slightly narky way when she asked for one??? Eh!?!? They should be shoved down every single person's throat – not only here in the venue, but out on the street in Camden. In fact, a condition of entry should be us signing a standard letter to the Mayor/Council complaining about the development. But not many people know why they are in here, beyond Kate Nash playing.

Something like this maybe should have been done sooner. The letter says that planning permission has been granted and eviction notices have been delivered – the traders move out in three weeks and the bulldozers move in.
