Review: The Vacation, Knitting Factory, LA

Ben Stegal arrives on stage hoodied and bug eyed like Bono, ranting into a mike that can't make it over the rest of the band. The house is almost full and The Vacation are back in LA after what they say has been a long time.
I love this band, the catchy songs, the screaming guitars, the unashamed rock poses, genre perfect. And it has been too long since they played back in Blighty. But there might be a reason for this. Last time they were in London was in 2003/4, their album 'The Band From World War Zero' had been picked up by Feeder's Echo Label and it looked like they might break. Then in what seemed to happen next was quite a fizzle. A rubbish choice of single with Destitute Prostitutes was met with 'who cares' by most of the press besides those who actually went to see the explosive live show.
So here we are at the explosive live show and there are problems. The band Suck. Ben comes across as a self indulgent winey sex pest, gradually stripping for the audience or his imaginary mirror spouting pesudo philsophy at the audience. The audience thins from the previous bands and some remarks float up from the audience. 'He is gross, a dead fish is sexier', Some bloke uses the Cnut word to describe them... Oh NO...
Steve Stegal, Bens identical twin, backbone of the band and all round nice chap hides behind a pencil tash and plays his guitar like the devil is chasing him... But the devil has heard all the songs before, they are almost all 4 years old from the original demo tapes... Barely any new blood in the airwaves it is like listening to ClearChannels radio stations...
Registering on their bands website it goes through to Warners registration process, does that mean they have been picked up by them? Cool, Well lets hope it isn't too late for them to reignite their song writing. This band are smashing but tonight, or in 2006 they have turned stale. Music Towers leaves the Factory trying to defend them against a wave of pretentious twat comments.
