A fully paid up family memebr of the Ed Banger crew (his cousin is half of Justice), Mehdi like most of the Bangers has his roots frimly extablised in hip hop. Music Towers rapped with him about Public Enemy, Le Pulp, Prince and Premier.
What’s your Production name and real name?
My name is Mehdi Faveris-Essadi, you can call me DJ Mehdi.
Where are you from?
North side of the Paris area.
How would you define your style?
Hip-hop music with no boundaries.
What got you into DJing and making music?
Destiny.
What are your earliest musical memories?
The first record I ever bought was Public Enemy's 2nd album, 'It takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back'. It remains my favourite album of all time.
What are the best clubs you’ve ever played?
Le Pulp and le Rex in Paris of course, my hometown. I also liked the CLUB Elf in Amsterdam where I played with my cousin Xavier from Justice, and the Pacha in Ibiza, which me and my big bro Busy P rocked two years ago.
What was your worst club experience?
Last year I played a promotional gig at a club named 'La Hacienda', about 40 miles west from Paris, and cleared an already sparse dance-floor with my then ultimate smash 'Never be Alone'. I had a really hard time trying to re-pack the room, succeeding only with MJ's 'Don't stop till you get enough', which is like the least surprising record any aspiring DJ could come up with.
Which DJs/ Producers do you most admire?
Producers Prince, DJ Premier, and Jimmy Miller. DJs Feadz, Louie Vega and Mista Sinista from the X-ecutionners.
Which labels, artists and genres are impressing you most at the moment?
Right now I'm a sucker for Kanye West, and I also dig The Thrills, and various stuff from the DFA.
What will be the next big thing?
Myspace.com taking over the real world.
What is your all time favourite record and why?
Like I said before, PE's 'Nation Of Millions' is the perfect record, start to finish, title, cover art, and the songs of course, the songs. Peace to Chuck D.
