Southend’s Switches are about to embark on huge UK tour, previewing new tracks from their forthcoming debut album recorded in sunny Los Angeles.  Eden Anderson catches up with guitarist/vocalist Matt Bishop.

Hello Matt
Hello, nice to hear from you.

Where are you?
I’m in a studio in London doing the shots for our debut album.

A debut album eh? Are you excited?
I am extremely excited! I’m so excited that every morning I wake up shaking!

Tell us more..
It might be self titled. I know that’s a bit lazy but it kind of suits what we’re trying to do because there’s such a broad, broad in scope the record..

I see you recorded it with Rob Schnaff whose done the Vines, Foo Fighters, Weezer etc
Yeah we did. I’m a massive Vines fan and we asked our record label if we could record with him and they just said ‘fine.’  I think our manager went over to meet him and played him some of our stuff and he said he loved it and he said ‘come over guys’ and we did.

We went over to L.A in August and we’ve almost finished the record now and we’re just going back at the end of November just to finish up two tracks that aren’t quite done yet and then hey ho it’s done. It’s sounding really good and we’re really pleased with it.

Did you like Los Angeles then?
The weather was brilliant but I think the thing I couldn’t get my head around was the size of it and no sort of real centre to it, like there is London you know.. and we probably might have found that a bit strange. But to be honest with you I didn’t really see a lot of it because I was in the studio every day sort of like noon till midnight. But I tell you what, there’s a lot of lovely people out there. I had a really good time. I look forward to going back next month just to finish it off. We’re going back for about two weeks. It’s all exciting.
