The Nightmare before Christmas – Part 1

ATP Camber Sands 3rd December

Having spent 2004's Nightmare before Christmas in a snowy downfall and with familiar faces in the cosy surroundings of Camber Sands, ATP’s second Christmas weekender is feeling like somewhat harder affair with the Mars Volta curating the event and bringing such delights as Mastodon, High on Fire, the Fucking Champs and as a counter point Anthony and the Johnson’s delivers his award wining unique le freak. Torrents of rain and high winds batter the journey down, the chalets are a welcome respite from the weather that barely lets up all weekend.

The LocustFriday - Upstairs

Dolled up in a black Spiderman outfits the Locust sound like a discordant alien radio 4 debate in the language of with manic shouty pressure math rock. The three members all at the front of the stage bark at each other, probably discussing which of the chin stroking audience they want on their ryder. Fun.

Fucking Champs – Saturday Downstairs

After a pleasant evacuation from a false fire alarm the Fucking Champs come on an hour late, cramming a thousand people into the downstairs hall, every inch full of punter. Rifftastic, somebody leaves the building ‘they sound like they should have been supporting Motorhead’ said meaning distain… Although none taken, that is good thing! The riffed up harmonic guitars don’t let up Their short hair and lack of big beards belies the very Metal that they are. This rare show hopefully will open up more opportunities for them in the UK.

400 blows – Saturday Upstairs

400 blows: with our chalets come a sexy little booklet in silver on the opening page it says "No one has ever said of them that they are 'okay' or 'pretty good'".

The American band in their three stripe uniform marry an almost cockney sounding Punk noise with repetitive and complex riffs over amazing drumming beats, lead singer Skot‘s mirror shades look great almost like Kevin from Sin City. But one thing for all this sounds good in realty I can’t help feel a bit indifferent in fact I even go to say they were okay. Although Andy’s hangover definitely hates them.
