So Glastonbury’s over, but that doesn’t mean the festival season has even got under way. Indeed, for hardened mudlarks, the annual basting in earth soup and trench foot slop has barely begun. Ben Osborne, founder of the Noise of Art festival and lover of the home hearth, cup of coco and ginger hobnob, suggests a few ways to get dirty this summer.
Latitude Festival, 12th - 15th July
Henham Park, Suffolk
The second year for Mean Fiddler’s festival, with theatre, comedy, cabaret and nicely surreal touches, such as brightly coloured sheep. Music wise it’s more or less indie down the line with some of the biggest names of the Brit Pop era making appearances as well, but if that doesn’t grab you there’s a wide choice of alternative activities, such as book reading, taking in a play or just getting twatted in the woods. Probably the prettiest festival of the season – provided the rain holds off.
Acts: The Good The Bad And the Queen, Arcade Fire, Wilco, Jarvis Cocker, Damien Rice and Music Towers house DJ's Beef Warehouse many more.
Price: £43-£112
2000 Trees Festival Friday 13 – Sunday 15 July
Describing itself as a “Green Festival. An Ethical Festival. A Music Festival” the organizers of this bijou affair say they were inspired by the Truck festival (see below), who are also lending their support to this affair, and by a general disillusionment with other music festivals. It’s been formed by six music fans in their 20’s and they think festivals should be about: “the love of live music, great performances and having a fantastic time in a field!”.

Noise of Art Summer South Coast Weekend 1,
Friday 13 July, Sunday 15 July.
Had to include this because we’re organising it, but it really is a baby festival and totally indoors, so mud factor is zero. It starts in Brighton on Friday night and ends with two after parties in London on Sunday (we like to celebrate). As ever there’ll be the finest rock n rave, techno, house, electro and acid money can buy, alongside visual art and performance stuff.
