Single of the Week
Rod Thomas - Good Coat
Label: Self Raising Records
Release date: Out now
Been reading some positive stuff about this guy and I can see why, just sun drenched feel good pop of the best quality. When I hear tracks like this it reminds me of why I love doing this- to discover pure nuggets of gold, and Rod Thomas delivers – just warm, melodic and lyrically superb- this guy is the real deal.
Can’t wait for the LP!

Alterkicks - On a holiday
Label: b-unique records
Release date: Nov 13th
These guys from Liverpool are creating a good following in their own part of the UK and it’s only fair that the rest of the land get’s to hear em! They recently had a support slot with fast growing label mates – The Automatic.
A real good stomp that has tones of the Cure and The Zutons – but still manage to sound fairly original, good arrangements with an upbeat tune with some great lyrics.
If this is a taster, then I reckon the album could be a feast!

Richard Swift - Beautiful Heart
Label: Secretly Canadian
Release date: 13th November
This single is taken from the critically acclaimed double album, The Novelist/ Walking without effort released last year- Supporting My Morning Jacket in the UK this month, this tune reeks of quality. Simple acoustic harmony with warm lyrics – the beauty is in its lyrics and arrangements that just hit all the right places- I can’t believe I missed the album; I’m off to buy it.

The Hours - All in the Jungle
Release date : Nov 6th
Label: Polydor
This is a limited release of only 1,000 copies of a track from a band that comprises of Anthony Genn who has previously played with Elastica and Pulp and both he and fellow band member Martin Slattery played in Joe Strummers The Mescalero’s- so these guys have a fine pedigree.
This track has a great on going hook that has some poignant lyrics ‘the greatest come back since Lazarus’ for one! The tune just climbs and climbs and grows and grows. One of the best tracks I’ve heard for a while.
