“This is the first time anyone else in the world has heard our new record” was how Tom Morello announced a playback of the yet-to-be released new Audioslave album, “Revelations”, which is not out until September.
Deep in the basement of one of London’s most exclusive private bars, No.5 Cavendish Square, the Audioslave and ex-Rage Against The Machine guitarist was giving a group of fans a chance to hear what Chris Cornell and the RATM boys have been cooking up. And Music Towers was there to here it first.
“We were so positive coming off touring “Out of Exile” that we just jumped straight in to the studio”, the six-stringer grinned before playing the album for the star-struck horde.
Opening with title-track, "Revelations", the album goes back to the pounding mos-pit movers of old, while "One And The Same" toys with the funked-up riffs that RATM toyed with on their covers album, “Renegades”.
The rest of the album bounces from full on Zeppelin-inspired powerhouses, to RATM rhythm-lifting, groove-powered stompers.
"Until We Fall" is one of the more interesting songs, closer resembling Cornell’s overlooked solo album than anything else the band have done. "Jewel of the Summertime" reminds of the vocal-hooked sunburnt belters from their debut record.
Morello also confirmed that the raging “Original Fire” would be the first single off the Californian supergroup’s third release, although he remained tight-lipped as to why the band cancelled all European shows this summer, and as to when the band would be returning to this side of the Atlantic.
